Author Charlie Lewis Jr. speaking with journalist Michelle Miller at the Apollo Theater on January 28, 2026.
This past month, Long Gallery Harlem had the honor of sponsoring Charlie Lewis Jr’s national book tour for No Apologies.: Love the Way You Live, at Any Age. We were proud to be a part of an event that brought together curious minds, creative spirits, and members of our community to celebrate storytelling, resilience, and self-discovery. Charlie’s work is a powerful reminder of why we gather to listen to each other’s stories and why spaces like Long Gallery Harlem matter.
Charlie Lewis Jr.'s debut book No Apologies invites readers to embrace their full selves without reservation. The words in this book come from a place of lived experience and deep reflection. His journey has resonated far beyond the page and created meaningful conversation across the country.
Attendees reflected on their own paths and what it means to live boldly and authentically. Charlie’s message encourages each of us to think differently about midlife, identity, and purpose. As one recent feature puts it, Charlie found a way to turn midlife into one of the most powerful chapters of his life. You can read that story in 11 Alive’s feature here.
We also encourage you to watch Charlie’s conversation with Harriette Cole where he speaks candidly about his journey and the intentions behind No Apologies. The depth of his perspective is inspiring and elevates what it means to embrace personal truth.
Another important piece of coverage comes from The Grio, where Charlie explains why he wrote No Apologies and why Historically Black Colleges and Universities continue to matter in shaping confident leaders and thinkers. This conversation highlights how education, culture, and community intersect in his work.
Finally, GLAAD published a thoughtful article that captures Charlie’s commitment to sharing his journey toward self-love and acceptance. It is a beautiful complement to his book and adds another dimension to the conversation he is creating with readers everywhere.
Supporting moments like these aligns with Long Gallery Harlem’s mission to foster cultural connection and amplify diverse voices. We believe art and storytelling are vital parts of community life and personal growth. When we come together to listen and reflect, we create the conditions for deeper understanding and empathy.
Thank you to everyone who came out, shared in the conversation, and made this event one we will remember for a long time.
Stay tuned for upcoming events and collaborations at Long Gallery Harlem and join us as we continue to celebrate voices that matter.
